Garden Centre

“3B have helped us to widen the scope of our recycling. We are now including pots and trays with our bale collections and getting paid for materials that were previously costing us money.”

Requirements

3B Recycling work with a large number of garden centres across the UK, sites which generate a lot of footfall from the general public. Most have cafés and restaurants which generate large volumes of waste.

There are more obvious waste streams which garden centres produce in large volumes, such as plant pots and trays.

One of the largest garden centres recently reached out as they could not find a cost-effective method for disposal of their plant pots and trays. 3B Recycling attended site to perform a FREE waste audit.

Solutions

Using our extensive experience working alongside the industry, ee identified the following waste types which we could help recycle;

– Cardboard bales

– LDPE films (pallet wrap)

– Plant pots

– Plant trays

– Food waste

What solution did we offer and how did this benefit the customer?

We offered site a combination of colour coded signage to follow each waste stream from its collection point on site, to its disposal points (bins or balers). This enabled a greater level of segregation and reducing risk of cross contamination.

– 1 x Mill size baler was installed for cardboard waste

– 1 x 75kg baler for LDPE films

– 1 x Twin chamber baler for plant pots and plant trays

– 8 x 240 litre bins for food waste

The benefits of segregating the recyclables and baling is generating revenue from the waste which can contribute or outweigh the cost of renting balers.

Compacting rubbish on site allows for a reduced carbon footprint as fewer vehicles are used to collect the waste from site each year.

The food was is recycled via Anerobic Digestion (AD) which produces Energy from Waste (EFW).
